Introducing LabTop 20 – Precision at low closing forces in a benchtop format

Following the recent introduction of the LabEcon 100, developed for precision at very low closing forces in floor-standing configurations, Fontijne Presses now expands its portfolio with a compact solution: the LabTop 20 benchtop hydraulic laboratory press.

This expansion is driven by a clear shift in laboratory and R&D environments. Increasingly, applications involve delicate materials, micro-scale structures, and narrow process windows, where precise control at low closing forces is essential.

With the introduction of both the LabEcon 100 and LabTop 20, Fontijne Presses now offers a complete solution for precision at low closing forces — from floor-standing systems to compact benchtop setups.

What is the LabTop 20?

The LabTop 20 is a benchtop compression moulding press designed for applications that require high precision at low closing forces, offering accurate and repeatable control between 0.9 and 20 kN.

With fine control in 0.1 kN increments, it enables consistent processing in applications where even small variations in force can impact results.

When do you need a low closing force press?

A low-force compression press is essential when working with:

  • Micro-scale or sensitive structures
  • Thin films and delicate materials
  • Narrow or highly controlled process windows
  • Applications where excessive force can damage samples

Typical applications include:

  • Microfluidics
  • Organ-on-a-chip
  • Pouch cell battery research
  • CoC processing
  • Drug encapsulation

These applications require controlled compression at low forces, where precision and repeatability are critical for reliable outcomes.

Benchtop performance without compromise

The LabTop 20 brings high-performance compression testing into a compact, easy-to-integrate format.

It features:

  • Closing force range from 0.9 to 20 kN
  • Precise control in 0.1 kN increments
  • Platen size of 200 x 200 mm
  • Heating up to 300°C
  • Cooling optional

As a benchtop laboratory press, it is designed for maximum flexibility:

  • Compact footprint
  • Standard 230V connection
  • Easy installation in virtually any lab environment

No special infrastructure required — and no compromise on performance.

Designed for daily lab use

Usability is at the core of the LabTop 20 design.

  • Ergonomic setup for comfortable operation
  • Intuitive touchscreen interface
  • Minimal training required for technicians

This makes it ideally suited for both routine quality control and advanced R&D workflows.

Integrated safety and reliability

Safety is fully embedded in the system design, including:

  • Fixed upper platen
  • Emergency stop system
  • Protective safety shield

Ensuring safe, reliable, and consistent operation — even in demanding lab environments.
